Planning a Business with Non-Christian Classmates

Question

I am a full-time college student in the process of planning and starting up a company with two college classmates of mine that are not believers.  Any advice on whether or not that is a good idea?

Answer

Most startups are all-consuming affairs that will take all of your time and energy as you attempt to launch and grow the company, so my first thought is that it will be very hard to do both (college and a startup) well at the same time.

Also you will become unequally yoked with two nonbelievers in terms of mutual business ownership.  And you will spend a lot of time with them.  As iron sharpens iron, they will have a tremendous influence on you.  I read a good quote recently that said we will become the average of the five people we spend the most time with, so if you are about to launch an all-consuming project with two nonbelievers as well as go to class with them, chances are better that you will become a lot more like them, than them like you in terms of faith and character.  In other words, I would think twice about it.  Be sure to flip through the Proverbs to read all of the warnings about teaming up with evil men and what a snare that can become.  It is best to seek God's will on this matter by searching out His Word.
