Legal Formation Costs
Question
How can I avoid unnecessary legal cost when establishing or forming my company?Answer
Some legal costs are avoidable, but other legal costs are a very good investment. Overall, I recommend using good legal templates whenever you can and then only pay your attorney for review rather than the authoring of the form to save on legal expenses. I do recommend seeking good legal advice on all important matters (such as intellectual property filings), but good templates are readily reusable for routine matters (such as a confidentiality agreement). You should also pre-negotiate with your attorney and attempt to establish billings rates, flat rates, caps and frequent billing updates in order to avoid any nasty surprises. Many simple formation steps such as filing for a sole proprietorship, etc. can easily be done without legal support.- November 14, 2011
