Current Job Market Toughest for Mature Workers

From the Harvard Business Daily Stat commenting on a CareerBuilder survey:

American workers age 55 and up have been hit particularly hard by recent job losses, according to a recent CareerBuilder survey. Only 28% of those over 55 who were laid off in the last year found new jobs, compared to 71% of those ages 25 to 34. 63% of laid-off employees over 55 said they had applied for positions below the level of their previous jobs, and 44% have been told by prospective employers that they are overqualified.

I would have to agree, even though I am not yet 55, I am a mature worker who has been overqualified for many jobs I have applied to in the past 18 months. The very reason for continuing to try to break out into an entrepreneurial endeavor of my own.
