Proud to be Cheap: The "Secret Sauce" of Low-Cost Winners
If you are writing a business plan, be sure you create a culture that is consistent with your marketing strategy and your target market. The "proud to be cheap" culture at Southwest Airlines works because they are a low-cost airline that serves a budget traveler and it works at Walmart who sells basic goods to budget shoppers in the "low price-low service" quadrant of the market positioning map. That same "proud to be cheap" culture would never work at Nordstroms, who is on the opposite end of the market positioning map in the "high price-high service" quadrant...
